Remember the story of the paralytic who was lowered into the presence of Jesus through a hole in the roof? We wrote about him in our newsletter, EMASSARY, May 2016.
It is a story of remarkable confidence in Jesus that left a hole in someone’s roof. We’re not told about the cost of repairs or when it was done. Someone must have covered the overhead hole. That is what donors do for missions, they cover the overheads. They make missions happen through their giving.
The possibility that we can give others a chance for a personal encounter with Jesus of the Bible (vision) leads us to find the means to do healthcare and education (mission) just like the friends of the paralytic in Mark’s gospel chapter two.
Our Asia teams are preparing for both in-person and remote teaching programs: our vision is to improve access to quality health care through our mission of giving future doctors and present-day workers information on advances in cardiovascular, kidney, and mental health. We are also in the middle of recruiting for a team to a Southeast Asian country that will do primary healthcare and treat eye diseases.
The Ecuador and Haiti teams will be providing orthopedic surgery and primary healthcare respectively in early 2023.
Our recent #rideforgutumissionhospital was aimed at raising funds and making friends on behalf of the women and children of Gutu district.
We are convinced that to improve health we must be holistic in approaching well-being, like Jesus and the paralytic, so we are collaborating with the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe.
We are blessed in EMAS Canada with generous friends who are not only paying for “the hole in the roof,” but also the means to provide the services of each team.
Some gifts are not quantifiable or “receiptable” but are precious beyond measure:
Like preparing meals and warm beds for weary cyclists. Or sorting and packing supplies for a traveling surgical team.

Remember the early Christian Macedonians begging earnestly for the honor of giving? So many of our donors are like them, they’re overflowing with God’s goodness and express it by giving generously.
As we enter the last quarter of 2022, the following teams are preparing to travel:
Zimbabwe Gutu (Teaching), Vietnam (Medical and Ophthalmology), Cambodia (Teaching), Cambodia (Surgical), Ecuador (Orthopedic), and DR Congo (Teaching).
China East is preparing for a virtual conference.
We can serve because of the partnership our donors have with Jesus; they cover our overheads; they make mission happen, and we are thankful.
