Robert Stephens Scholarship Fund

From small beginnings and against all odds, EMAS Canada grew under the leadership of Dr. Robert Stephens.

He was the first Executive Director of EMAS Canada, leading the organization between 1986 and 1998 during which period he was also the director for the Christian Medical and Dental Society (now CMDA).

Our China teams were the results of his response with others to an invitation by Friends of China in 1986 to visit cities in Wenzhou and Ningbo on the east coast.

Before participation in the China teams, He was a career missionary in the then Belgian Congo. Beginning in 1949, Dr. Stephens helped establish the Nyankunde Hospital, which was supported by EMAS Canada.

Bob’s influence is still evident through EMAS Canada’s services to various parts of the world and at Nyankunde Hospital in Congo.

At the peak of EMAS Canada’s expansion to Angola, Cuba, Ecuador, Haiti, Uganda, and Vietnam, Dr. Stephens was active in various leadership roles and was mentor to several of our team leaders.

EMAS Canada is “cut” from Dr. Stephens as shown by our teams to Cambodia, Haiti, Ecuador, the D R Congo, and Vietnam.

To honour his dedication to EMAS Canada and medical missions, The Robert Stephens Scholarship Fund supports the training of healthcare professionals for medical missions and to fund selected medical students for their elective terms.

By donating to the Robert Stephens Scholarship Fund, you are bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ through future generations of healthcare workers being trained for missions.

Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn; look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah, who gave you birth. When I called him, he was only one man, and I blessed him and made him many. Isaiah 51:1-2
