The Race Marked Out for Us

As an organization we want to have relevant, valuable, and lasting impact. We want our donors to be proud of us and our beneficiaries transformed by life with God. And we want the government of Canada to be satisfied that we represent the best of Canadian benevolence that does good and no harm.

We are inspired by the lifestyle of Jesus, of whom it was said, “He has done everything well.” His response to and teaching about everyday issues affected the people of His time. We know that Jesus dealt with all kinds of people of all genders and ages, he took care of their physical disease and fed the hungry. He also taught that life with God did not end on earth. He responded to emergencies and to chronic and neglected conditions; He did not discriminate against the oppressive rulers when there was an invitation to serve. He was not afraid to call out hypocrisy and injustice, especially when they distorted the truth about God. He took advantage of no one.

As a Christian charity, we learn from the supranormal standards Jesus set for the “race marked out for us.” However, EMAS Canada is made up of diverse teams and programs, including many opportunities to reach that high standard through specialization. Each team runs its own unique race by doing a few things well.

The leaders who developed our ethos made it fundamental to have integrity as a guiding principle.

As discreet, functional units our teams are bound by the commitment to exhibit Christlike moral uprightness, veracity, and trustworthiness as part of a bigger whole.

We live in and operate in a complex and multicultural country where not everyone believes as we do, and we work with such diverse communities that it is impossible to guarantee a common code of right and wrong. Nevertheless, we clearly see in the scriptures how God has offered to make us righteous for Himself and to serve those whom He allows us to reach.

One of our gifts of service is to care for one another on our teams, protecting and preserving each other from the harmful possibilities of temptation to misuse people, money, and power for personal gratification. We do this in part through policies and by adopting safeguards.

Our policies give all our stakeholders a chance to reduce risk and proactively respond to behavior that would limit our best service to them.

The race marked out for us is ambassadorial for Christ and Canada.
