The October 22-28, 2023 EMAS Canada/Reformed Church in Zimbabwe Workshop in Masvingo will focus on Obstetric and Neonatal Emergency training using the curriculum developed in Zimbabwe, we are again privileged to have some of the developers of this curriculum on the faculty.

We will rely on Zimbabwean Obstetricians Dr. Tarisai Marere and Dr. DavidzoyaShe Makosa to select and coordinate the trainers. We want to take along Canadians with skills to train in neonatal resuscitation. The Christian Medical Fellowship of Zimbabwe will provide local pediatricians to lead some of the training.

The six-day workshop will empower more of Gutu Mission Hospital staff plus fifteen workers from various government and mission health centres that depend on Gutu Mission Hospital.

We plan to partner with Zimbabwean cyclists by riding from Masvingo to Gutu and back over two days, funds raised in Zimbabwe will go towards a fund for an ambulance. Timely transport to a comprehensive maternity hospital is one way to save the life of Mrs X.

Skills needed:

Tradespersons: Electricians and Carpenters

Medical Education: Neonatal resuscitation and Obstetric ultrasonography

Fundraisers: Intrepid cyclists. The Zimbabwe ride is scheduled for October 20 and 21. Details to follow.
