Our Core Values

 

There are some core values we all believe in at EMAS Canada, they cut across our diversity uniting us in the common bond seen in how we serve and who we serve, both locally and abroad.

These values have been passed on from one generation to the next among our leaders and volunteers for so long that they define the culture of our “tribe”.

Christ-Centered Healthcare

EMAS Canada are followers of Jesus Christ, His example in service, teachings, and empathy for those in need define our highest aspirations.

We embrace His compassion and care for the whole person - physical, mental, and spiritual. We relentlessly pursue alignment with His concern for people.

Knowing Jesus is important to us, it allows us to become like Him so our words and actions can represent Him well.

Humility and Servanthood

We are disciples, eager learners who acknowledge that God is already at work among all people. We esteem the wisdom and lived experience of our international partners. With humility we see missions as opportunities to learn about local culture. We shape our service into sensitive and relevant forms that demonstrate trust, and mutual respect.

Diverse and Interdisciplinary Teams

Many generations collaborate across denominations, and professional backgrounds. By blending diverse disciplines—medical, spiritual, and relational—we serve holistically in teams to more fully express the strengths, gifts, and skills that Jesus gives His followers.

Empowering Local Leaders

We help local healthcare workers and hosts; we work with them to equip them with tools for lifelong service. They are the everyday frontline presence of Christ; our partnership aims to strengthen their witness and not ours.

Relational Commitment

We serve abroad by invitation and locally through volunteers, building long-term relationships marked by accountability, respect, and interdependence. We seek ways to share life beyond mission driven tasks. We believe Jesus is building a community of worshippers within our Canadian teams and uniting us with international partners for the same purpose. We work in Canada and abroad for connectedness based on Christ’s teachings to deepen relationships, and offer one another support and encouragement through prayer, shared resources, and opportunities.
