The siege lasted seven years.

It was brother against brother; the offspring of Abraham the Midianites through Keturah against the Israelites who were sons through Sarah.

Israel went into total lockdown; everyone was confined to caves; such was the curfew that food preparation was a dangerous activity.

The devastation felt like a swarm of locusts every time the Midianites raided Israel and these “locusts” were omnivorous.

So, Israel asked God for help and He came to the rescue by commissioning a liberator.

The Midianite oppression and liberation that followed became a biblical metaphor for God’s final act of liberating humanity through Jesus.  Isaiah 9:4-7.

The 2020 lockdowns, curfews, hoardings, and shortages echo the tribulations of ancient Israel’s “day of Midian”.

Our technological advances have provided some relief through modern medicine and new methods of communications have kept commerce going, but still, there has been too much suffering, far too many deaths, and the long-term impacts are unknown.

Nevertheless, we are glad because scientists have developed potent vaccines. World leaders are excited about the news, and are on national television to see the first of their citizens vaccinated.

Our gloom and anguish over COVID-19 will soon end. National hearts are collectively swelling with pride as vaccination programs are rolling out with the military spearheading delivery.

The anticipated relief is such a joy and uplifting to a world, weary with grief for so many months.

A far greater consolation is ours through Jesus Christ.

It was announced long ago that God would provide a fountain at which barriers between Himself and humankind will be dissolved. Zechariah 13:1

God cares and responds to people who call on Him for help. He did during the Midianite oppression; this is the Christmas message our teams announce all year round.

Now as always, the password for access is to ask God for help. Rom.10:11-13 MSG

You can find more details of the Midianite oppression in Judges 6.
